Frequently Asked Questions
and their answers.
How do I know if online tutoring or classes will benefit my student?
Recent years have shown that online education can even be MORE effective than in-person learning.
When an experienced educator applies their passion and skills, excellent progress is inevitable.
Mr. C has a proven track record of success in schools and online. See the About Me page for details.
Why are the prices in pounds (£), not dollars ($)?
While many of my students are in the Bahamas, I am now based in the UK.
I pay a fee to process each transaction, saving you the cost.
This means, no matter where you are in the world, you should be able to use your card for free,
only paying the normal exchange rate between the currencies.
The exchange rate is constantly changing, but here is an approximate conversion from Google.
How many sessions will my student need?
The answer to this question depends on what you would like your student to achieve through tutoring.
My small-group classes address specific topics from the relevant course, while the one-on-one tuition provides the most personalised support. I recommend you consider the timeline to the examinations before making your choice.
You can sign up for a single tuition session from only £45, which may be a great place to start, before deciding what suits your student and your schedule.
How often do you want to meet with my student?
This again depends on your expectations for progress for your student.
You may find one small-group class and one tutoring session per week is a good balance.
If you book a weekly small-group class, you receive a discount for a one-on-one tuition session,
which is a great way to try it out and see if it meets your student’s needs and your schedule.
What subjects and courses do you offer?
Mr. C is an experienced Science and Physics teacher, so he’s sticking to what works.
A full list of the classes available can be found through my on my booking page. Alternatively, you can navigate through my small-group classes page to find classes for BGCSE Physics.
I also offer one-to-one tuition in Science and Physics, as well as general mentoring and coaching for students who may find it difficult to connect to teachers in their conventional school environment.
If you are interested in another subject, please contact me and I will recommend a suitable tutor.
I’m doing a UK course like GCSE or A-Level, does it matter what exam board my course is with?
Yes and no.
As my Dad always jokes, “V = I R” no matter which company logo is on your exam paper.
Please let me know the exam board when you book and I will adjust my sessions accordingly.
I’m in the UK, does it matter if I’m doing GCSE Physics as a single science or part of GCSE Combined Science?
Yes.
While some topics are present in both courses, there are naturally more physics topics that make up GCSE Physics than are found in the GCSE Combined Science: Trilogy.
Just let me know the exact course when you book and I will adjust my sessions accordingly.
If you wish to ask me about the suitability of a class, please contact me and I’ll be happy to help.
Am I able to purchase your resources?
Signing up for a small-group class automatically gives you free access to the relevant Slides and Homework Tasks, along with vital, personalised feedback.
However, if you wish to access pages from the ONLY textbook designed specifically for the BGCSE Physics course, or wish to access slides and homework tasks from a different topic, you can use the button below to purchase them.
Only a few topics are available at the moment, but this will continue to expand throughout the year.
Are you a certified teacher?
Mr. C completed his teacher training in the UK in 2013 and has been teaching ever since, including six years as a Head of Department. His record speaks for itself:
83% A at BGCSE Physics (2022), 71% A at BJC General Science (2022), 100% A-B at both BGCSE and BJC (2022), with four of his students previously winning National subject prizes in the “online era” (BGCSE Combined Science, 2020 and 2022, and BGCSE Physics, 2020 and 2023).
In September 2023, Mr. C began teaching GCSE and A-Level Physics part-time in a school in UK.
What sets you apart from other tutors?
Aside from my excellent track record, my teaching experience makes me unique.
I’ve taught in schools in the UK and the Bahamas, supporting students with a huge range of backgrounds and subject knowledge. I also tutor for a charity helping disadvantaged students get into top universities in the U.K..
I use my skills and experience to adapt my teaching techniques, allowing me to meet the individual needs of my students. Large tutoring companies or college student tutors just can’t do that.
All my term-time small-group classes have a fixed limit of five students maximum, ensuring your student gets the attention they deserve.
Warning: my passion for Science and learning is infectious!
How long is each session?
For simplicity, all sessions are 45 minutes in length, allowing students to focus for the entire session.
This is a minimum length, and occasionally we may overrun by a few minutes if the learning dictates that.
The 15 minute gap a the end of sessions allows Mr. C to open the prepared resources, and refill his trusty drink of water, before the next class.
Planning for classes and providing feedback on assignments are included in the price, but do not take up any of the 45 minute session length.
What does my student need for a session?
To access a session, your student will need a device, an internet connection and a free Zoom account.
To get the most out of sessions, it is also highly desirable to have a working webcam and microphone.
Finally, students should have lined paper, a pen, a pencil, a ruler and a calculator nearby.
Do you offer any discounts?
If you sign up for a month of weekly small-group classes, you will receive a 25% discount code for a one-on-one tuition session. You are free to use this yourself, or pass on to a friend, but please note it is a one-time code and will expire after use!
Aside from that, I do not offer any regular discounts. I am responsible for the costs of running my business and supporting my family. The pricing of the various sessions are set up to allow me to do this.
The cost of my individual tuition sessions are above what may be considered the “average rate” for tuition the UK. I still provide value at this price. If you only want to pay for an average tutor, then I recommend going to find one!
That said, I fully recognise that my pricing may not fit every family’s budget. There is something exciting in the pipeline in this area, but, for now, there is free content for Physics, General Science and Mindset for Learning on my YouTube channel! Check it out here!
What if I can’t make a session I’ve already booked?
As all sessions are prepaid at booking, I am only able to provide rescheduling, and not refunds.
If you cannot make a tuition session or a one-off class, you can reschedule it for an equivalent session up to 48 hours in advance of the original start time. This must be done through the booking platform.
Within 48 hours of the session start, you will not be able to reschedule a session and it will be considered a late cancellation. This is to give all students access to the most popular time slots.
The weekly small-group classes are on the same day and time each week to allow you to design your schedule around them. You can not individually reschedule these sessions. Please ensure these fit your schedule prior to booking.
If you need any other assistance regarding booking or rescheduling, please feel free to contact me.
Oops! I forgot all about the session!
Unfortunately, if a “no-show” does happen, it is treated like a late cancellation and cannot be made up.
If you know your student will be late to a session, please let me know as soon as possible.
I endeavour to send a reminder email if a student is five minutes late. If a student is 10 minutes late, without notice before the start time of the session, it will be considered a “no-show”.
In that case, the session will not be made up and a refund will not be provided.
You can link the Acuity Scheduling to common calendar apps to minimise the risk of your student missing a session.
